Overview

An interactive game that turned refrigerator organization into a hands-on learning experience for visitors to Whirlpool's showroom. I led the creative direction, UX, and visual design, working with designers, developers, a writer, and a photographer to bring the experience to life. We explored multiple concepts before developing Organize It, a game that challenged visitors to put groceries in the right places while discovering how to keep food fresh.

Outcome

Organize It was installed in Whirlpool's World of Whirlpool showroom as a full-scale touchscreen experience, bringing together interactive gameplay, product education, and visual storytelling.

CONTEXT & GOALS

Making refrigerator organization engaging

Whirlpool wanted a more engaging way to demonstrate the benefits of refrigerator organization and food storage. Rather than asking visitors to read about product features, we wanted to give them something they could interact with, learn from, and remember.

CREATIVE EXPLORATION

Three directions explored

We explored three different ways to turn refrigerator storage into an interactive experience. Each took a different approach to helping visitors engage with the product.

An arcade-style food storage game.

Fridge Invaders

Inspired by classic space invaders game where  visitors control a UFO that shoots fruit into the refrigerator.

Making food freshness a little more fun.

Food Bytes

An 8-bit-inspired concept that uses playful visuals and food facts to teach visitors about freshness and storage.

Refrigerator Recall

Visitors flip cards to find matching pairs of food, testing their memory with a food-themed challenge.

THE SELECTED DIRECTION

Organize It

We chose Organize It for its simple, hands-on approach. Visitors could drag groceries into the right places, learning about food storage while exploring Whirlpool's refrigerator features.

EXPERIENCE & INTERACTION

Learning through play

Visitors organized groceries using a touchscreen interface, moving items into different storage areas. The experience combined product photography, drag-and-drop interactions, and simple instructions to make the game easy to understand.

A clear moment of completion

At the end of the challenge, visitors received a score and feedback about their choices, along with the option to view their results.

A fully stocked refrigerator invites visitors to take on the challenge.

VISUAL DESIGN

An identity for the experience

Alongside the game concepts, we explored variations of the Organize It wordmark. The final identity paired the name with a highlighted "It" and a touch gesture, connecting the mark to the interactive experience.
